City Guide
Da Nang is a modern beach city in central Vietnam, with a long sandy beach, mountains on the horizon and the lantern-lit old town of Hoi An 45 minutes away. It is one of the easiest places in Southeast Asia to build a calm work routine by the sea.
Best for
Remote workers who want a routine by the sea on a small budget
Best months
February to May
Time difference with CET
+6 hours in winter, +5 hours in summer
Cost per day
Roughly €40–€80 including a good hotel
Internet
Very fast mobile internet; good WiFi in hotels and coworking spaces
Less suited if you travel from September to December, the rainy and typhoon season in central Vietnam.
Vietnam's mobile internet is among the fastest in the world, and hotels, cafés and coworking spaces in Da Nang usually have reliable WiFi.
A local SIM or eSIM gives you cheap mobile internet that you can share with your laptop as a backup during calls. Read my guide to eSIMs for workations.
Coworking day passes in Vietnam usually cost 150,000–350,000 VND, about €5–€12.
Enouvo Space
One of the best-known coworking spaces in Da Nang.
Toong
A Vietnamese coworking brand with spaces in several cities.
Café culture is a big part of the appeal: many cafés near My Khe beach are spacious, air-conditioned and happy for you to stay for hours.
My Khe and An Thuong
Close to the beach, with plenty of cafés and restaurants aimed at long-stayers. The most popular base for remote workers.
Man Thai
Further north along the beach: quieter and more local.
City centre (Hai Chau)
Along the Han river, closer to markets and the famous bridges, but further from the sea.
Stays I list in Da Nang:

A rough week for one person with a good hotel, excluding flights:

€170–€450
For a hotel room with a desk
Food
€60–€120
From street food to restaurants
Coworking
€40–€65
For five day passes
Transport

On Grab cars and motorbike taxis
Vietnam is six hours ahead of CET in winter and five in summer. Your mornings are free, and the European workday lands in your afternoon.
Feb–May
Dry and pleasant, the best time for a workation
Jun–Aug
Hot and mostly dry, busy with domestic tourists
Sep–Dec
Rainy season with a risk of typhoons and floods
Jan
Cooler and variable, with rain
Da Nang airport is close to the city, about 15 minutes from the beach by Grab, with domestic flights and flights to other Asian hubs.
Grab is the easiest way around, by car or motorbike taxi. Hoi An is about 45 minutes away by car.
Citizens of many EU countries can visit Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days. For longer stays, apply online for a 90-day e-visa. A tourist stay does not allow local employment.
Visit Hoi An old town in the evening, when the lanterns are lit
Ride up the Son Tra peninsula for views and wild monkeys
Climb the Marble Mountains
Watch the Dragon Bridge breathe fire at weekends
Take a day trip over the Hai Van Pass
Yes. It combines fast internet, low costs and a beach routine, especially from February to May.
Da Nang for a beach, a bigger choice of cafés and coworking spaces; Hoi An for a small, atmospheric town.
Citizens of many EU countries can stay up to 45 days visa-free. For up to 90 days, apply for an e-visa.
Da Nang is part of my Vietnam guide, next to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Compare it with the rest of the region in my Southeast Asia guide.
