5 tips to make your next workation successful 🌴

Based on my own experience

Tips & Tricks

1

Your Workplace must be comfortable

Cafés and co-working spaces are great to work at when abroad, but many jobs require privacy as well

So, ensure your hotel has 👇

🛜 Private and reliable Wi-Fi

A must for confidential calls. And always use a VPN.

🪑 A desk with proper chair

And in my case, a coffee machine as well... 😉

Many accommodations still cater tourists rather than remote workers, so check in advance to ensure they have the right facilities

It’s hard to find a place that checks all this, I’ve experienced

Check out the places I’ve stayed!

2

Have a workspace backup plan

I’ve experienced hotels with bad Wi-Fi and no desks. So do research on co-working spaces if your hotel doesn’t work out.

And 👇

📡 Get an eSIM with unlimited data from a reliable provider

Hotel wifi can be slow and unsafe

📳 Make sure it supports the Personal Hotspot feature on your phone

Double check! I’ve spent too much money on SIM cards that didn’t support this because I didn’t know providers could block this…

I’ve tried many eSims

Never worry about staying connected anymore with these fast and affordable eSims

3

Make use of time zones

I’ve working in locations all around the world. Sometimes, time-difference was none to little, sometimes it was large. One time, I worked in Bali and Thailand, 6 hours later than Europe. Some days, I had meetings until 11PM (5PM in NL). An exception though — I blocked late afternoons in my calendar weeks ago to make my schedule clear to others.

But time difference works great, imagine this 👇

🕘 Slow mornings, long breakfasts and a few hours of deep work

And no distractions since Europe still sleeps, so nice!

🕛 Midday for lunch, exploring, excursions. 3PM, check in with NL, their day started.

🕕 Dinner at 6PM, lunchtime in NL. Then, few more hours for some meetings before calling it a day.

4

Set clear boundaries

Workation can feel like vacation. Make sure to set a schedule for yourself.

I arrived in the evening a few weeks ago. Excited, but exploring had to wait. I had work to do the next day.

But don’t overcompensate because you’re working from paradise

One day, I lost track of time. Working with an iced cappuccino at the pool. So relaxed, but I caught myself working 12 hours straight...

5

Be flexible and reachable

In many industries, working at a fixed location with a fixed schedule is long gone already Remote work is more accessible than ever before, I can confirm.

But 👇

I always tell others it’s okay to text or call me late night if urgent, I’m flexible. I won’t get upset because how can I while working from paradise?
