City Guide
Antalya is a relaxed city on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, with a historic old town, cliffs above the sea, long beaches and the Taurus mountains behind it. In winter it is one of the cheapest sunny places to work from near Europe.
Best for
Winter sun seekers on a budget
Best months
October to May
Time difference
1 hour ahead of Central Europe in winter, 2 hours in summer
Cost per day
Roughly €60–€110 including a good hotel
Internet
Good in hotels; get an eSIM, as EU roaming does not apply
Less suited if you want a big coworking community, or you travel in July and August, when it is very hot and crowded.
Hotels and apartments aimed at longer stays usually have good WiFi, but quality varies, so ask for a photo of the desk and a recent speed test before you book.
Turkey is outside the EU, so your normal EU mobile plan does not include roaming. An eSIM with a Turkey data package gives you mobile internet from arrival and a backup for calls. Read my guide to eSIMs for workations.
Coworking Antalya
A coworking space in the old town, with monthly plans from around 3,100 TL.
Lara Coworking
A coworking option in the newer Lara area to the east.
Many remote workers simply work from their hotel or apartment. Choose a stay with a proper desk, and cafés in the old town and along Konyaaltı for a change of scenery.
Kaleiçi
The historic old town above the old harbour: charming boutique hotels, cobbled streets and restaurants. Can be noisy in the evening near the bars.
Konyaaltı
West of the centre, along a long pebble beach with mountain views. Calmer, with a seaside promenade.
Lara
A newer area to the east with sandy beaches and big hotels. Further from the old town.
Stays I list in Antalya:
A rough week for one person with a good hotel, excluding travel:
Stay
€300–€600
For a hotel room with a desk; winter brings big discounts
Food
€100–€180
Coworking
Optional; many people work from their stay
Transport
€10–€30
On trams, buses and taxis
Lira exchange rates change quickly, so check current prices before you go.
Oct–Nov
Warm sea and sunny days, fewer crowds
Dec–Feb
Mild, around 15°C by day in January, with rainy spells but lots of sun
Mar–May
Warm and green, a great time for hiking
Jun–Sep
Hot and busy with beach holidaymakers
Antalya airport has many direct flights from Europe and is about 20–30 minutes from the centre by taxi or tram.
The tram connects the airport side, the centre and Konyaaltı. The old town is best explored on foot.
Many EU citizens can visit Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days, some with only an ID card. Check the current rules for your nationality before you book.
Walk through Kaleiçi to Hadrian’s Gate and the old harbour
Watch the sunset over the mountains from Konyaaltı beach
Visit the Düden waterfalls
Take a weekend trip to the ancient cities of Perge or Aspendos
Hike a section of the Lycian Way in spring or autumn
Days are mild, around 15°C in January, with a lot of sunshine between rainy spells.
Antalya for winter sun, the sea and a slower pace; Istanbul for big-city energy, more coworking and food.
Yes, it is highly recommended, as EU roaming does not apply in Turkey.
Antalya is part of my Turkey guide, next to Istanbul. Compare it with the Canary Islands, Madeira and Málaga in my winter sun workation guide.
