Why this stay works well for a workation

YellowSquare Florence has a dedicated workspace called SmartSquare — described on their website as more than just a common area, explicitly set up with free WiFi, bar service, a printer, and air conditioning, open from 8AM to 10PM daily. The hostel also mentions a co-working area, recording studio, and a shared kitchen that doubles as a meeting room. For a hostel, the work infrastructure here goes noticeably further than the typical lobby table setup. The WiFi is free throughout the building. Private rooms are available for guests who need quiet, and the 24-hour reception means no strict check-in windows. Reviews consistently mention a lively but manageable social atmosphere — guests note they could always find a quiet corner to relax or work when needed.

Rooms and common areas

The hostel offers both private rooms and dormitories. Private rooms include a private bathroom, air conditioning, and a more contained environment for focused work. Dormitory beds come with bed curtains for privacy. The hostel has extensive common areas including bars (Barsù on the rooftop, Bargiù for events and parties, and Barmezzo serving pasta and pizza), a shared kitchen, and a rooftop pool and terrace — useful for unwinding after a work session. Linen is included for all room types; towels are included for private rooms and available to rent for dorms. Cleaning service is also included.

Atmosphere and who it suits

This hostel is explicitly built around social energy — events, live concerts, karaoke nights, cooking classes, wine tasting, and yoga on the terrace are part of the regular programme. Multiple reviewers describe it as one of the most social hostels they have visited, with a strong mix of international travellers. That same energy can be a consideration: the bars and events are active in the evenings, though several reviewers specifically note good soundproofing in the rooms and that noise stays downstairs. The hostel suits remote workers who want a social, lively atmosphere alongside a real workspace — not those looking for a quiet retreat.

Value and practical details

YellowSquare offers a long-stay promo (15% discount) for extended bookings, which is worth checking for workation stays of a week or more. The hostel includes a welcome drink, free daily pasta, luggage storage at check-in, laundry facilities, a city map, and free organised strolls and activities. Check-in is at 3PM for dorms and private rooms; check-out is at 10AM for dorms and 11AM for private rooms. Reception is open 24 hours. The rooftop pool and tram stop directly outside the building are consistently called out by guests as standout practical conveniences.

Location

The hostel is on Viale Francesco Redi in the Novoli area of Florence, postcode 50144. A tram stop is directly outside the entrance, with connections to the Santa Maria Novella train station and the historic centre in a few stops. The surrounding neighbourhood is residential and calm — quieter than the tourist core — while Florence's main squares, food markets, and cafés are reachable in a short tram ride or brisk walk. Guests note good access to daily essentials nearby, and the hostel's own staff map highlights spots for local food, coffee, aperitivo, and reading within the wider neighbourhood.

Good to know

YellowSquare Florence scores 9.1 out of 10 on their own review platform (Hostelworld-sourced). The SmartSquare coworking space is available from 8AM to 10PM with free WiFi, bar service, a printer, and air conditioning — no day-pass fee for hostel guests. The hostel has a consistent long-stay promo running (15% off); worth checking at the time of booking. Food and alcoholic drinks are not permitted in rooms. The welcome drink and free daily pasta are included with all room types. For a working stay, booking a private room is the practical choice.

Wonderful staff

When I caught a cold ,the front desk staff treated me with great kindness and care. They even escorted the visiting doctor to my room, which was extremely helpful. truly appreciate their support and attentiveness. The complimentary pasta was also delicious, and the events looked very enjoyable. Next time stay, I would love to take part in one of the events. Thank you very much.
