Workation Proof Accommodation
A 4-star boutique hotel in the heart of Zürich's Old Town, a 12-minute walk from Hauptbahnhof. Sorell Hotel St. Peter sits in a quiet alley steps from the Fraumünster and Bahnhofstrasse, with soundproofed rooms and free WiFi — a calm and very well-located base for working remotely in one of Europe's most expensive cities.
Sorell Hotel St. Peter is a 4-star boutique hotel tucked into In Gassen, a narrow street in Zürich's medieval Old Town, a few steps from St. Peter's Church and the Fraumünster. The address puts you directly in the historic centre yet, despite the surroundings, the hotel is genuinely quiet — the rooms are soundproofed, and several look onto an inner courtyard. Hauptbahnhof is 760 metres away, around a 12-minute flat walk, which means you have the full Swiss public transport network on your doorstep. The hotel scores 9.3 on Agoda (9.6 for location, 9.5 for service) and is a consistently well-reviewed property with free WiFi throughout. For a workation in Zürich it offers a calm atmosphere, practical room design, and an unusually central but low-noise position.

Room types include Standard King, Deluxe Double or Twin (32 m², king bed), Grand Deluxe Double or Twin (38 m², two single beds), Superior Double or Twin, and a Business Double King. Rooms are described by guests as spacious relative to expectation, well-designed, and very clean (cleanliness score 9.6). The hotel lists soundproof rooms as a confirmed amenity, which matters if you plan to spend long hours working uninterrupted. Bathrooms feature an electric washlet/bidet — unusual for European hotels at this price level and a comfort detail worth noting for longer stays. Free WiFi is available in all rooms and public areas.
One of the main trade-offs of staying in a central Old Town property is noise from nearby churches — St. Peter's Church and Grossmünster are both within 250 metres. The hotel addresses this with soundproofed rooms, and some rooms face an internal courtyard rather than the street. Guests consistently report that the hotel is quieter than expected given its location. This matters for remote work: you can have a central address with easy access to the city's cafes and transport whilst still having a genuinely peaceful room to return to. The hotel's own rating for cleanliness is 9.6 and its service score is 9.5 — useful indicators that the day-to-day experience is well maintained.
The hotel has a fitness centre, a bar, a coffee shop, a snack bar, and room service. Daily housekeeping, dry cleaning, laundry service, and safety deposit boxes are available. The 24-hour front desk means arrivals at any time are handled, and the team regularly receives praise for being helpful with logistics. Breakfast is served until noon — a practical detail when remote work shifts your morning schedule. The hotel is wheelchair accessible and has a lift, and bicycles are available for guests who want to explore the city. Parking is available in an underground car park roughly 50 metres from the property.
The hotel's location in the Old Town is compact and very walkable. Bahnhofstrasse — the main shopping and banking street — starts 170 metres away. Burkliplatz tram/bus stop is 480 metres away, connecting directly to most of the city. Hauptbahnhof is 760 metres on foot (12 minutes). The Old Town itself has numerous good cafés within a few minutes' walk, including a mix of independent and chain options. Museum of Art (Kunsthaus Zürich) is 590 metres away when you need a break. If you want a scenic walk, the Lindenhof hilltop park is 220 metres from the hotel and gives views over the River Limmat and the city.
The hotel is in In Gassen, a quiet street in Zürich's Old Town (Altstadt), directly behind St. Peter's Church. Fraumünster is 130 metres away, Bahnhofstrasse begins 170 metres away, and Hauptbahnhof is a 12-minute walk (760 m). The area is dense with restaurants, cafés, and small shops. Trams run through the surrounding streets and the Burkliplatz stop (480 m) connects to the wider city network. The neighbourhood is lively during the day and quieter in the evenings due to zoning, making it a good fit if you want easy city access without being directly above a bar street.
Zürich Airport (ZRH) is 9.8 km from the hotel. The most practical route is by train: walk 12 minutes to Hauptbahnhof and take the direct S-Bahn or Intercity service to the airport, which takes around 10 minutes and runs every few minutes. The total journey from the hotel door to the airport is typically under 30 minutes. A taxi from the hotel takes approximately 20 minutes and costs around CHF 50–70 depending on traffic. There is no airport bus terminal near the hotel — the train from HB is the standard and preferred option for most travellers.
We only stayed one night at Sorell St. Peter's and we wish we booked more nights! To start with, the location is so close to the main train station (Zurich HB) - 12min walk. Although it's in the city centre it's kind of tucked away and was super quiet inside the hotel. The staff was stellar and so kind and warm. The room was super functional and beautiful - and has an electric washlet/bidet in the bathroom! What a pleasant surprise! We rarely see that travelling in the EU. Breakfast is all the way until 12pm noon, which is such a nice touch for those that want to sleep in. Overall, amazing experience and would absolutely recommend!
Very conveniently located in the old town, walkable from HBF. Quick ride to the airport. Hotel itself is well designed and exceptionally clean, great bath products. Welcome fruits was a nice touch. Straight forward breakfast that have the things you'd want, they also offer cheeky Prosecco on the buffet, perfect for those who are celebrating. We were assigned a room on the G/F facing the inner courtyard, no issues with the church bells/noise that some reviews highlighted. We also didn't have any issues with the A/C. Front office team were super friendly and helpful, they also helped to arrange early check in after our long travel so that was a game changer. One note is, cabs can't drive right up to the hotel but you can be dropped off 30 seconds away in the nearby plaza so that's no issue. Really loved our stay and will definitely be our hotel of choice whenever we're back in Zurich!
Had a lovely time. Staff were so nice, attentive, polite. Breakfast was tasty. Location is fantastic its 10 mins from the main train station. We honestly had an amazing time.
